SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2ND

Location: Utrecht University, Equine University Hospital

MOTION ANALYSIS

  • Objective gait analysis in equine daily practice
  • Objective gait analysis for longitudinal monitoring
  • Kinematic gait analysis in (lame) dogs
  • Kinetic measurements in the canine clinical practice

RECOVERY AND REHABILITATION

  • Objective assessment of posture and relationship to function in recovery
  • Exercise testing in relation to recovery
  • Surface EMG for locomotion muscle activity
  • Aqua training for the equine athlete

PARALLEL SESSION 1 – WORKSHOPS (fully booked – registration not available anymore)*

    1. Equine Gait Analysis
Quantitave gait analysis in horses can be a valuable tool for lameness evaluation in the clinic. This workshop will introduce three objective gait analysis systems and will provide information on how they work, high quality data collection & data interpretation.
    2. Equine exercise testing: how to know your equine athlete is fit to perform. – Emmanuelle van Erck.                                            Combining your clinical eye, looking at a horse working while using smart wearable technology that allows us to evaluate how he is responding to the workload and rider gives you comprehensive tools to objectively assess athleticity and fitness, detect subclinical diseases and help reduce injury.
    1. Equine Rehabilitation – Morgan Lashley
There are many rehabilitation techniques available, but how do you determine which technique will help your patient? In this workshop we combine patient and science to look at the potential effects of ground pole work, under water treadmill training, Equiband and tactile stimulation.
    2. Canine kinetics – Barbara Bockstahler
In this workshop, we will show how measurements of ground reaction forces can be carried out in practice. What do we have to pay attention to in order to get valid measurements. How can we interpret the results?
    3. Canine Hydrotherapy – Jil de Graaf
The hydrotherapy workshop starts with the theory behind the practice, including its definition, indications, variables, and training goals. The theory will be followed by a demonstration using the underwater treadmill. Subsequently, a number of cases will be discussed, providing attendees with valuable insights into how hydrotherapy can benefit various conditions. We conclude with an open discussion, allowing participants to ask questions and share their own experiences.

*You will be asked to chose the workshops of your preference during registration

PARALLEL SESSION 2 – REGENERATIVE MEDICINE AND ORTHOBIOLOGICS

Focus on Joints

  • Relevant current Equine, Canine, or Human publications on joints
  • Modulation of joint homeostasis. What are we trying to accomplish?
  • What is used in human Osteo Arthritis and why?
  • How to adapt the choice of treatment to the specific joint of interest?
  • The role of feed and supplements in joint homeostasis?
  • Stem cells, availability, allogeneic vs autologous, Europe vs North America

Round Table

  • Discussions to target when to choose an orthobiologic and strategies to make best decisions.  Cases  followed thru to discussions on recheck exams, rehab strategies and adjunctive treatments.  (Panel)
